High Five Thumbs Up
Our High Five Thumbs Up non-profit organization was organized to assist Sandlot Sports & Entertainment in providing sports programs for youth in New England.
Physical inactivity characterizes the lives of most Americans. Some studies have reported that the average elementary student spends 25 minutes a week in scheduled physical activity and watches television 24 to 27 hours a week. Children become less active as they move through adolescence. All children need to have more physical exercise in their lives.
One specific group of children that can benefit from physical exercise is those with disabilities. Physical education is the only curricular area that is a defined part of special education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. People are beginning to realize the value of physical education, recreation, dance, aquatics and all types of sports for individuals with disabilities.
Our mission is to utilize our current athletic facility to improve the lives of all children through active participation in summer camps, swim programs, water activities and year round sports programs that will promote development in all areas of children’s lives – physically, mentally and socially. In order to carry out this mission, we will create a quality administrative and operating system with a support network, a strong financial position and a network of volunteers that support out goals. We will also continue to research and develop methods for building quality athletic programs.
